About AltWoke
AltWoke is built on one belief: criticism, not copium, is the engine of progress. Every improvement in the human record began with someone saying the settled thing was wrong, and explaining why. We exist to keep that sentence in circulation.
We publish serious criticism, and satire, about governments, institutions, religions, companies, ideologies, and the ideas most people treat as settled. We are pro-criticism, and we belong to no tribe. An idea here competes on its reasoning and its evidence, never on the flag it flies or the name signed beneath it. For the full argument, read the manifesto.
How it works
Every essay is one author's sincere judgment and an argument you can answer. Readers challenge it, add evidence, or point out mistakes. When we get something wrong we say so on the page and leave the record where everyone can see it. We hold our own work to the standard we ask of everyone else. Where a disagreement will not resolve, we leave it standing, because an honest unsettled argument teaches more than a manufactured consensus.
Real names and pen names
Write under your real name or a pen name. Both are honored equally. We call it pseudonymous, not anonymous: your ideas are judged on their merits, and a pen name still carries a record you have to answer for. Many of the arguments that changed the world arrived unsigned, and they were no less true for it.
Reading and writing
Reading is free. Follow the writers, countries, and topics you care about, and the pieces worth your time will find you. If you are new here, start with before you enter.
If you have an argument worth making, apply to write. If you just want in on the conversation, make an account.
